Capt. I.K.Taimur is a Master Mariner having graduated from Bangladesh Marine Academy, Chattogram in 1986. He has completed his Cadetship from Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and subsequently completed all his professional certificates of Competencies from Hongkong and The Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. He has undergone number of professional courses including navigation specialization, Safe cargo handling, Crisis management, Leadership Teamwork, Hazmat,NCC and various other relevant maritime international conventions.
He has also 3-yrs experience in maritime teaching in private maritime institutes before joining this academy. Altogether he passed through 14-yrs Maritime Education and Training.
During the tenure of his professional Sea Career at Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and many other Foreign companies he had the opportunity to serve in different range and types of vessel such as General Cargo, Tanker, Container, Bulk carrier and Multipurpose vessel. He did 5-years command on foreign shipping companies.
He has the glorious 23 years of Sea career and currently persuading a shore based career in the field of Maritime Education and Training since Aug 2012.He joined Marine Academy, Chittagong as Nautical Instructor and later on was promoted to Sr. Nautical Instructor and he was Chief of Nautical studies for several times in BMA, Chattogram.He was overall incharge of supervision and development , Marine Academy Sylhet.(Jan19~Dec,2019) later on he joined as a Commandant of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Sylhet in Feb,2020 to Aug, 2020.Again he was at the helm of Command of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Sylhet from 20/06/22 to 08/08/2023. At present he took addnl charge of Commandant of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Chattogram.
He has obtained his MSc with Distinction in Environmental Science from Stamford University. He did L.L.B from southern University. Also he is a Govt. approved independent marine surveyor & a Lead auditor ( by DNV-GL).He attended various seminars and work-shops governmental and non-governmental in abroad and in B’Desh too.
He was convenor of National integrity strategy(NIS) in Bangladesh Marine Academy, chattogram(2013-2018). He performed the job of “Focal point” of Blue Economy in BMA,Chattogram(2017- June,2022) . He was awarded (Govt.) the best performer of NIS in Bangladesh Marine Academy,Ctg in the year of 2019.
In his personal life he is happily married and blessed with one daughter(Doctor) & one son (student).
